The House of Hanover has added two new members to its royal family after Prince Christian of Hanover welcomed twins.
Prince Christian and his wife, Princess Alessandra, are the proud new first-time parents of a baby and a baby girls. Princess Alessandra, who is an attorney originally from Peru, and married into the royal family when she wed Prince Christian back in 2017, gave birth in Madrid on July 7.
Now, the royal couple has both confirmed their baby news and announced the names, choosing their children Nicolas and Sofia. They will be styled as Prince Nicolas and Princess Sofia.
The new parents are linked to the Monegasque royal family – Prince Christian is Princess Caroline of Monaco’s stepson, making him related to Grace Kelly. Princess Caroline, Grace Kelly’s daughter, is responsible for the link between the two royal families, since she wed Prince Ernest August of Hanover – Prince Christian’s dad – in 1999.
Prince Christian, 35, first time met his future wife in 2005 while he was visiting Peru. In what is one of the sweetest royal dating stories of all time, Alexandra was assigned as the prince’s tour guide while he was visiting country. They become engaged in 2017 and wed the same year in a civil ceremony set at London’s Chelsea and Westminster register office. The following year, they hosted a religious wedding at the Basilica of San Pedro, in Lima, Peru.
At per Tatler, the guest list for the second, larger wedding ceremony included a number of members of international royalty as well as A-list celebrities, such as British royal sisters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as well as supermodel Kate Moss. Of course, the ever-stylish Monaco royal family were also in attendance, including Prince Christian’s step-mother Princess Caroline, and his step-siblings Pierre, Andrea and Charlotte Casiraghi, along with their spouses.
Prince Christian of Hanover is second in line to the Hanoverian throne, after his brother, Prince Ernest August. The House of Hanover is a German royal house dating back in 1635 and its members are therefore considered to be of nobility.
The palace first announced that Princess Alessandra, 32, was pregnant back in March, before announcing the arrival of the twins earlier this month.
