MILAN – Hulu’s limited TV series adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s book, Nine Perfect Strangers, is taking shape with a number of key cast members on board, Deadline reports.
Nicole Kidman and Gilmore Girls alum Melissa McCarthy are set to star along with The Good Place’s Many Jacinto. Kidman will take on the role of Masha – the director of the health retreat, Tranquillum, where the story is set and the ‘nine perfect strangers’ go to reset – and Jacinto will take on the role of Yao, a character Deadline describes as ‘bright-eye man-kid with a hisper vibe’ who is Masha’s ‘right hand man at Tranquillum’.
Per Deadline, David E. Kelley (the creator behind the TV series adaptation of Moriarty’s Big Little Lies) has co-written the script for the forthcoming Nine Perfect Strangers series along with John Henry Butterworth and Samantha Strauss. Kelley and Butterworth are also set to be joint showrunners for the series.
The series is looking at a 2021 debut on Hulu, according to Deadline.
Kidman is yet to confirm whether the project is for TV or film, but a source told The Hollywood Reporter it’s most likely heading to the small screen. Kidman will team up with Papanddrea and also her own producing partner Per Saari – the same dream team that brought you Big Little Lies.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying Kidman is likely to star in the series too, playing Frances Welty-though nothing is confirmed.
