
Come October when the EXPO2020 opens in Dubai, French luxury brand Cartier plans to set up a Women’s Pavilion. Dedicated to discussion about the role of women in society and how to tackle issue of gender equality, the pavilion celebrates female achiever through a series of talks. Prominent human right lawyer Amal Clooney, who has long spoken out for women’s rights, will be lending her support to the cause.
Aside from Clooney, the conversation will be fuelled by a community of scientists, artists, politicians and female entrepreneurs. Cartier’s pavilion will be located in the Sustainability District, and is so for the only one sponsored by a luxury brand. The pavilion has been endorsed by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the executive director of UN Women, who applauded the UAE for creating the opportunity.
With the support of the Expo’s director, Her Ecellency Reem Al Hashimy, this will be one of the first steps the watch and jewellery maker takes to improve its social and environmental policies. Cyrille Vigneron, the president of Cartier, said, ‘The Women’s Pavilion is an exciting new chapter in the Maison’s long-standing commitment to support women change – makers’. As gender equality movements take hold all over the world, fashion houses are making progressive strides to do their part for the women that support them.
